Stop & Smell The Roses

It seems I have the best conversations with myself, and most creative ideas while I am jogging or exercising.  I always feel so invigorated and creative while working out.  Throw on some headphones and I enter my own world of sorts.  Today while I was on the elliptical, I had an epiphany.  Several years ago I decided that I was tired of the mundane and going through the motions of life; I wanted more.  I was no longer going to grab a plate and sit in front of the tv for meals, but rather I wanted to be able to sit at the table and have a meal.  It didn't have to be fancy meal, but it was going to be okay to fix a fancy meal from time to time - even if it was dinner for one.   I was not going to rush through dinner, as if it was a chore, and inhale my food.  I was going to take my time and enjoy the experience.  And the same was going to apply to every aspect of life.  The gym was not going to be the same dull routine every day any longer and I was not going to engage in any activity and just go through the motions.  I want/ed to live life to the fullest and embrace all that life has to offer.
It is so easy to get harried with all the demands of life on us - work, bills, responsibilities... that we sometimes forget to stop and smell the roses along the way. Instead we opt to just cram one more activity into our busy schedules and mark it off as quickly as we can to say we got it done.  Trip to the grocery store...check.  Gym...check.  30 minutes to relax?  Turn the tv on and just watch whatever is on to fill the time...check.  Don't get me wrong, I don't have all the time in the world to do what needs to be done, I definitely work much better with a semi-structured flow.  I am also not rich by any means.  I just think that we need to infuse enjoyment into our day to day activities.  Instead of driving to a gym to get on a treadmill for exactly 60 minutes, why not go out in nature and jog.  Meal time??  Bust out the nice dishes, even if it is to eat alone.  Need a new outfit?  Don't just buy a pair of jeans, but go out and find the perfect pair.
